Chronicle of Geoffrey le Baker of Swinbroke

Baker was a secular clerk from Swinbroke, now Swinbrook, an Oxfordshire village two miles east of Burford. His Chronicle describes the events of the period 1303-1356: Gaveston, Bannockburn, Boroughbridge, the murder of King Edward II, the Scottish Wars, Sluys, Crécy, the Black Death, Winchelsea and Poitiers. To quote Herbert Bruce 'it possesses a vigorous and characteristic style, and its value for particular events between 1303 and 1356 has been recognised by its editor and by subsequent writers'. The book provides remarkable detail about the events it describes. Baker's text has been augmented with hundreds of notes, including extracts from other contemporary chronicles, such as the Annales Londonienses, Annales Paulini, Murimuth, Lanercost, Avesbury, Guisborough and Froissart to enrich the reader's understanding. The translation takes as its source the 'Chronicon Galfridi le Baker de Swynebroke' published in 1889, edited by Edward Maunde Thompson.

He married 1390 his first cousin once removed Elizabeth Douglas Countess Buchan and Orkney, daughter of Archibald Douglas 1st Duke Touraine and Margaret Stewart Duchess Touraine, and had issue.

In 1381 Robert Stewart 1st Duke Albany [aged 41] and Muriella Keith Duchess Albany [aged 23] were married. He the son of King Robert II of Scotland [aged 64] and Elizabeth Mure Queen Consort Scotland.

On 24 or 25th February 1382 [her brother-in-law] Alexander "The Wolf of Badenoch" Stewart 3rd Earl Buchan [aged 39] and Euphemia 6th Countess of Ross were married. He by marriage Earl Ross. On 17th August 1424 the English forces led by John Lancaster 1st Duke Bedford [aged 35] inflicted a significant defeat on the French and Scottish army at the Battle of Verneuil; a second Agincourt. For the English Edmund Hungerford [aged 15], Ralph Longford [aged 23], John "Old Talbot" Talbot 1st Earl of Shrewsbury [aged 41] and Richard Waller [aged 29] fought.

On the French and Scottish side Pierre Valois, William Seton Master of Seton [aged 34], Alexander Home of Home and Dunglas [aged 56] were killed.

Archibald Douglas 1st Duke Touraine [aged 52] was killed. His son Archibald [aged 34] succeeded 2nd Duke Touraine, 2nd Earl Wigtown, 5th Lord Douglas, 2nd Lord Annandale, 2nd Lord Galloway, 2nd Lord Bothwell. Archibald's son James Douglas was also killed.

John Stewart 2nd Earl Buchan [aged 43] was killed. His brother Robert [aged 39] de jure Earl Ross and Earl Buchan although he didn't claim the title since both titles had reverted to the Crown.

Jean Poton Xaintrailles [aged 34] fought.

Anne Boleyn. Her Life as told by Lancelot de Carle's 1536 Letter.

In 1536, two weeks after the execution of Anne Boleyn, her brother George and four others, Lancelot du Carle, wrote an extraordinary letter that described Anne's life, and her trial and execution, to which he was a witness.
