Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough 1691-1752

In or before 1685 [his father] Richard, Baron Lumley [aged 34] and Frances Jones [aged 17] were married.

In 1691 Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough was born to Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough [aged 41] and Frances Jones Countess Scarborough [aged 23].

In 1706 [his future brother-in-law] George Montagu 1st Earl Halifax [aged 22] and Ricarda Posthuma Saltonstale [aged 17] were married.

After 1711 [his brother-in-law] George Montagu 1st Earl Halifax [aged 27] and [his sister] Mary Lumley Countess Halifax [aged 20] were married. She the daughter of [his father] Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough [aged 61] and [his mother] Frances Jones Countess Scarborough [aged 43]. They were fifth cousin once removed.

On 29th March 1720 William O'Brien 4th Earl Inchiquin [aged 20] and [his future sister-in-law] Anne Hamilton 2nd Countess Orkney and Inchiquin were married. She by marriage Countess Inchiquin. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney [aged 54] and [his future mother-in-law] Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney [aged 63]. He the son of William O'Brien 3rd Earl Inchiquin and Mary Villiers Countess Inchiquin. They were first cousins.

On 17th December 1721 [his father] Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough [aged 71] died of apoplexy at Gerard Street, Soho. His son [his brother] Richard [aged 35] succeeded 2nd Earl of Scarborough, 3rd Viscount Lumley, 2nd Baron Lumley.

In 1722 [his mother] Frances Jones Countess Scarborough [aged 54] died.

In 1722 Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 31] was elected MP Arundel.

On 23rd May 1723 James Saunderson 1st Earl Castleton [aged 56] died unmarried. Earl Castleton and Viscount Castleton extinct. His estates were inherited by his cousin Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 32] who added Saunderson to his surname.

On 27th June 1724 Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 33] and Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough were married. She the daughter of George Hamilton 1st Earl Orkney [aged 58] and Elizabeth Villiers Countess Orkney [aged 67]. He the son of Richard Lumley 1st Earl Scarborough and Frances Jones Countess Scarborough. They were fourth cousins.

In May 1725 [his son] Richard Lumley-Saunderson 4th Earl Scarborough was born to Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 34] and [his wife] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough. He married before 1753 Barbara Savile Countess Scarborough, daughter of George Savile 7th Baronet and Mary Pratt, and had issue.

In 1727 Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 36] was elected MP Lincolnshire.

On 29th January 1740 Richard Lumley 2nd Earl Scarborough [aged 53] committed suicide by shooting himself through the roof of the mouth possibly as a result of his having told the Dowager Duchess of Manchester [aged 34], who he had intended to marry the following day, a state secret which she then shared with her grandmother Sarah Jennings Duchess of Marlborough [aged 79] who shared it with William Pulteney 1st Earl Bath [aged 55] who shared it with everyone else. His brother Thomas [aged 49] succeeded 3rd Earl of Scarborough, 4th Viscount Lumley, 3rd Baron Lumley. Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough by marriage Countess of Scarborough. He left his estates to his youngest brother James Lumley [aged 34].

On 4th February 1740 Richard Lumley 2nd Earl Scarborough was buried at the Grosvenor Chapel, Mayfair.

In 1741 [his nephew] George Montagu Dunk 2nd Earl Halifax [aged 24] and Anne Richards [aged 15] were married. She brought a fortune having inherted from Thomas Dunk Ironmonger whose name her husband adopted. He the son of [his former brother-in-law] George Montagu 1st Earl Halifax and [his sister] Mary Lumley Countess Halifax.

On 15th March 1752 Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough [aged 61] died. His son Richard [aged 26] succeeded 4th Earl of Scarborough, 5th Viscount Lumley, 4th Baron Lumley.

On 30th September 1772 [his former wife] Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough died.

[his daughter] Frances Lumley-Saunderson Countess Ludlow was born to Thomas Lumley-Saunderson 3rd Earl Scarborough and Frances Hamilton Countess Scarborough. She married Peter Ludlow 1st Earl Ludlow and had issue.
