Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford 1721-1803

She the daughter of [his grandfather] Evelyn Pierrepont 1st Duke Kingston upon Hull [aged 57] and [his grandmother] Mary Fielding Countess Kingston upon Hull. They were fourth cousins.

On 4th August 1721 Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford was born to John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower [aged 26] and Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower [aged 30].

On 22nd April 1725 Wriothesley Russell 3rd Duke Bedford [aged 16] and [his future sister-in-law] Anne Egerton Duchess Bedford were married. She by marriage Duchess Bedford. She was the step-daughter of his sister [his future mother-in-law] Rachel Russell Duchess Bridgewater [aged 18]. She the daughter of Scroop Egerton 1st Duke Bridgewater [aged 43] and Elizabeth Churchill Countess Bridgewater. He the son of Wriothesley Russell 2nd Duke Bedford and Elizabeth Howland Duchess Bedford. They were sixth cousins.

In 1727 [his mother] Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower [aged 36] died.

On 11th October 1731 [his future brother-in-law] John Russell 4th Duke Bedford [aged 21] and Diana Spencer Duchess Bedford [aged 21] were married. She the daughter of Charles Spencer 3rd Earl of Sunderland and Anne Churchill Countess Sunderland. He the son of Wriothesley Russell 2nd Duke Bedford and Elizabeth Howland Duchess Bedford. They were third cousins.

On 23rd June 1733 William Villiers 3rd Earl Jersey [aged 26] and [his future sister-in-law] Anne Egerton Duchess Bedford were married. She by marriage Countess Jersey. On 29th June 1744 [his brother-in-law] John Fitzpatrick 1st Earl Upper Ossory [aged 25] and [his sister] Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory [aged 19] were married. She by marriage Baroness Gowran of Bowran in County Kilkenny. She the daughter of [his father] John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower [aged 49] and [his mother] Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower.

In 1746 [his wife] Elizabeth Fazakerley died of smallpox.

On 7th May 1751 [his brother-in-law] John Waldegrave 3rd Earl Waldegrave [aged 33] and [his sister] Elizabeth Leveson-Gower Countess Waldegrave [aged 27] were married. She the daughter of [his father] John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower [aged 56] and [his mother] Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower. He the son of James Waldegrave 1st Earl Waldegrave and Mary Webb. On 25th December 1754 [his father] John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower [aged 60] died. His son Granville [aged 33] succeeded 2nd Earl Gower, 3rd Baron Gower, 7th Baronet Gower of Stittenham in Yorkshire. [his wife] Louisa Egerton Countess Gower [aged 31] by marriage Countess Gower.

On 9th January 1758 [his son] George Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Duke Sutherland was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 36] and [his wife] Louisa Egerton Countess Gower [aged 34]. He married 4th September 1785 Elizabeth Sutherland Duchess Sutherland 19th Countess Sutherland, daughter of William Sutherland 18th Earl Sutherland, and had issue.

On 21st February 1759 John Murray 4th Earl Dunmore [aged 29] and [his future sister-in-law] Charlotte Stewart Countess Dunmore [aged 29] were married. She the daughter of [his future father-in-law] Alexander Stewart 6th Earl Galloway [aged 65] and [his future mother-in-law] Catherine Cochrane Countess Galloway [aged 50]. He the son of William Murray 3rd Earl Dunmore.

Before August 1760 [his brother-in-law] Richard Vernon [aged 34] and [his sister] Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory [aged 35] were married. She the daughter of [his father] John Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Gower and [his mother] Evelyn Pierrepont Baroness Gower.

In 1761 [his daughter] Anne Leveson-Gower was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 39] and [his wife] Louisa Egerton Countess Gower [aged 37]. She married 5th February 1784 Archbishop Edward Venables-Vernon-Harcourt, son of George Venables-Vernon 1st Baron Vernon and Martha Harcourt Baroness Vernon of Kinderton, and had issue.

On 14th May 1761 [his wife] Louisa Egerton Countess Gower [aged 38] died.

In 1762 George Spencer 4th Duke of Marlborough [aged 22] and [his niece] Caroline Russell Duchess of Marlborough [aged 18] were married. She by marriage Duchess Marlborough. She the daughter of [his brother-in-law] John Russell 4th Duke Bedford [aged 51] and [his sister] Gertrude Leveson-Gower Duchess Bedford. On 23rd March 1769 Augustus Henry Fitzroy 3rd Duke Grafton [aged 33] and Anne Liddell Duchess Grafton [aged 32] were divorced when he discovered she was pregnant by her lover [his nephew] John Fitzpatrick 2nd Earl Upper Ossory [aged 23] whom she subsequently married. Plans to marry his mistress Anne aka Nancy Parsons Viscountess Maynard [aged 34], if they existed, were undermined by the discovery he discovered she was having an affair with John Frederick Sackville 3rd Duke Dorset [aged 23].

After 23rd March 1769 [his nephew] John Fitzpatrick 2nd Earl Upper Ossory [aged 23] and Anne Liddell Duchess Grafton [aged 32] were married. She by marriage Countess Upper Ossory. He the son of [his former brother-in-law] John Fitzpatrick 1st Earl Upper Ossory and [his sister] Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory.

On 13th April 1769 [his daughter] Georgiana Augusta Leveson-Gower was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 47] and [his wife] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford. She married 30th January 1797 William Eliot 2nd Earl St Germans, son of Edward Craggs Eliot 1st Baron Eliot and Catherine Elliston Baroness Eliott, and had issue.

On 22nd March 1770 [his son-in-law] Frederick Howard 5th Earl Carlisle [aged 21] and Margaret Caroline Leveson-Gower Countess Carlisle were married. She by marriage Countess Carlisle. She the daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 48] and Louisa Egerton Countess Gower. He the son of Henry Howard 4th Earl Carlisle and Isabella Byron Countess Carlisle [aged 48]. They were fourth cousin once removed.

In 1771 Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 49] was appointed 590th Knight of the Garter by King George III of Great Britain and Ireland [aged 32].

After 5th January 1771 William Petty 1st Marquess Lansdowne [aged 33] and [his niece] Louisa Fitzpatrick Marchioness Lansdowne [aged 16] were married. She by marriage Countess Shelburne in County Wexford. She the daughter of [his former brother-in-law] John Fitzpatrick 1st Earl Upper Ossory and [his sister] Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory. Before February 1771 [his daughter] Charlotte Sophia Leveson-Gower Duchess Beaufort was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 49] and [his wife] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford. She married 16th May 1791 her half fourth cousin once removed Henry Charles Somerset 6th Duke Beaufort, son of Henry Somerset 5th Duke Beaufort and Elizabeth Boscawen Duchess Beaufort, and had issue.

On or before 15th September 1772 [his daughter] Susanna Leveson-Gower Countess Harrowby Lincolnshire was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 51] and [his wife] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford. She was baptised at Trentham, Staffordshire. She married 1795 Dudley Ryder 1st Earl of Harrowby, son of Nathaniel Ryder 1st Baron Harrowby and Elizabeth Terrick Baroness Harrowby, and had issue.

On 12th October 1773 [his son] Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Earl Granville was born to Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 52] and [his wife] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford. He married 24th December 1809 his half fourth cousin once removed Harriet Cavendish Countess Granville, daughter of William Cavendish 5th Duke Devonshire and Georgiana Spencer Duchess Devonshire, and had issue.

On 14th July 1776 George Greville 2nd Earl Warwick and Brooke [aged 29] and [his niece] Henrietta Vernon Countess Warwick and Brooke [aged 15] were married at Whitehall Palace [Map]. She by marriage Countess Warwick, Countess Brooke Warwick Castle. She the daughter of [his former brother-in-law] Richard Vernon [aged 50] and [his sister] Evelyn Leveson-Gower Countess Upper Ossory. On 30th January 1797 [his son-in-law] William Eliot 2nd Earl St Germans [aged 29] and Georgiana Augusta Leveson-Gower [aged 27] were married at Trentham, Staffordshire. She the daughter of Granville Leveson-Gower 1st Marquess Stafford [aged 75] and Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford.

In 1805 [his former wife] Susanna Stewart Marchioness Stafford died.

She married 22nd March 1770 her fourth cousin once removed Frederick Howard 5th Earl Carlisle, son of Henry Howard 4th Earl Carlisle and Isabella Byron Countess Carlisle, and had issue.
